Android 2.1 2.2 MSCHAPV2 WPA2 802.1x problem fix

Android Wifi - not always perfectHaving trouble connecting to your corporate 802.1x WPA2 network using MSCHAPv2 on your Android? Yeah, it’s a well known problem with Android versions 2.1 and 2.2. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn’t. You can see endless forum threads about this.

My case was that I was trying to connect to my university corporate network (see here), using the following settings:

Android 2.2 MSCHAPV2 connect attempt

Enter wireless network information

  • EAP method: PEAP

  • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2

Yep the same problem kept coming up. Android would refuse to remember either the phase 2 authentication or the password.

The best way to solve this issue is install an application called Wifi Config (or Wifi Configuration or Wifi Advanced Config Editor). If you don’t have access to Android Market and you’d rather download and transfer to the devide then follow this link.

It fixes the MSCHAPV2 bug and allows you to tweak the connection settings.

Hope that helps. If you know of another way, share that with us here.
